FLCL (2000–2001) A Japanese anime produced by Gainax. The genre is action and comedy... but trying to categorize the genre for this work seems a bit meaningless. I dropped it in the past, but it suddenly came to mind recently, so I watched it all the way through. I know that Gainax is the studio behind Neon Genesis Evangelion, and the core members who worked on FLCL later went on to produce Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Honestly, even after watching it twice, I couldn't understand the story, and I'm not even sure if there's any meaning to it in the first place... However, it showcases exceptionally outstanding visual aesthetics and music quality, and that is its true charm. While many other anime series show some consideration to help viewers follow the flow of the story, this anime is merciless. If you look at it scene by scene, it's incomprehensible; when you string it all together, it almost seems to make sense, but if you really think about it, it's a completely unhinged story where you have absolutely no idea what it's trying to say. According to director Kazuya Tsurumaki, because they experimented with so many new directorial techniques, Japanese audiences at the time couldn't understand it. He mentioned being surprised that Western audiences, who weren't even considered as a target demographic, actually understood it and showed a positive response. From start to finish, it features chaotic and rapid scene transitions as if a series of commercials or music videos were stitched together. Before the viewers can even catch up with the flow of the story, the anime just recklessly dashes forward without giving them a single moment to breathe. The Pillows - Bran -new Lovesong All soundtracks were handled by the Japanese band The Pillows, and almost all soundtrack is quite good. The Pillows- Thank you, my twilight I like this version.
